Data Loggers
Devices used to collect and record physical data such as temperature, humidity, speed, sound, and light levels to ensure sample quality and regulatory compliance during storage, transportation, and handling. May be wireless and with/without display.
Data loggers can be used to monitor and record various environmental conditions to help maintain sample quality and regulatory compliance during storage, transportation, and handling.
These electronic devices record data over time or in relation to location. Generally, they are small, battery powered, portable, and equipped with a microprocessor, data storage memory, sensors, and remote connectivity.
They may interface with a computer and have software that activates the device or allows the collected data to be viewed and analyzed. Others may have a local interface device (keypad or LCD) and act as stand-alone devices. Some data loggers are programmable, while others have static or limited capabilities. The main benefit of data loggers is their ability to collect data while left unattended for a specific period.
Data loggers may measure more than one parameter. If temperatures are being recorded, choose a temperature logger that records within the intended range. Data loggers may also have the capability to record minimum and maximum temperatures to help ensure the products or samples have not been exposed to temperatures outside a specific range.
Sensors may be built-in or external. External probes may be made to withstand harsh environments and may be connected via cable for remote measurements. A single data logger may also have more than one channel to measure internal and external temperatures simultaneously, for example.
Other features available for data loggers include maximum days’ measurements, programmable intervals, submersible probes, waterproofing, single use, traceability, and permanent or erasable data capabilities.
