2-Iminothiolane-HCl (CAS 4781-83-3); an amine-reactive thiolation reagent to cap protein primary amines with sulfhydryl groups for immediate crosslinking.

Thermo Scientific™ Pierce Traut's Reagent is 2-iminothiolane, a small thiolation compound that reacts with primary amines (e.g., lysine side chains) to add a small spacer arm (8.1 Ås) terminated by a free sulfhydryl group.

Highlights:

  • Reacts with primary amines (lysine epsilon amino groups) at pH 7-9
  • Adds a short spacer ending in a sulfhydryl group, ready for use as a target for sulfhydryl-specific crosslinking or labeling
  • Amine-containing spacer arm preserves charge of original, modified primary amine

How long and at what temperature can the Pierce Traut's Reagent (2-iminothiolane) (Cat. No. 26101) be stored in acidic solution devoid of primary amines?

We do not recommend storing the Traut’s Reagent in solution. This reagent is more stable in solution than others crosslinkers because hydrolysis takes place at a slower rate. Yet, its hydrolysis will inevitably occur with time if it is in solution. Therefore, to ensure a better crosslinking efficiency, we recommend preparing a fresh solution each time and storing the Traut's reagent as a powder at 4°C. Unfortunately, we do not have stability data of this reagent in a solution.

Can you provide the shelf-life for Traut's Reagent (2-iminothiolane)?

Traut's Reagent (2-iminothiolane) is covered under our general 1-year warranty and is guaranteed to be fully functional for 12 months from the date of shipment, if stored as recommended. Please see section 8.1 of our Terms & Conditions of Sale (https://www.thermofisher.com/content/dam/LifeTech/Documents/PDFs/Terms-and-Conditions-of-Sale.pdf) for more details.
