  • MOPS-SDS running buffer is a zwitterionic, morpholinic buffer that allows the separation of medium- to large-sized proteins

Application

  • MOPS is used as a running buffer in electrophoresis. The use of MOPS buffer allows proteins to run slower than when MES buffer is used
  • MOPS-SDS running buffer, 20X concentrated, is formulated to be used for running proteins on an SDS gel
  • This buffer contains SDS detergent to maintain the denaturation of proteins and MOPS to buffer the pH
  • It is commonly used for cell culture media and protein purification in chromatography
  • MOPS is frequently applied in buffered culture media for bacteria, yeast, and mammalian cells
  • It is also applied in the bicinchoninic acid (BCA) assay
  • It is used in separating RNA in agarose gels
