Description

Isolate and identify Gardnerella vaginalis with this differential, ready-to-use solid medium.

Isolate and identify Gardnerella vaginalis with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ V Agar prepared plates, a medium containing a special blood agar base with 5% human blood, designed to enhance the growth of fastidious organisms.

Use the solid media V Agar Monoplate to isolate and identify Gardnerella vaginalis.

  • Promotes: V Agar contains the essential elements for the growth of Gardnerella vaginalis.
  • Easy to read: The transparent agar allows differentiation of G. vaginalis colonies from those of commensal microbial flora (e.g., streptococci, yeasts, lactobacilli, etc.).
  • Selective: Colistin, nalidixic acid and nystatin inhibit most gram-negative bacilli, yeast and diptheroids.
  • Ready-to-use: Convenience of prepared media.

Casein and meat peptones supply nitrogenous compounds, carbon, sulphur and trace elements necessary for the growth of G. vaginalis. Cornstarch is an energy source. Human blood is incorporated into the agar to allow for presumptive identification of G. vaginalis, which produces diffuse beta-hemolysis on V agar and Agar Selective. Colistin, nalidixic acid and nystatin are selective agents, which inhibit most gram-negative bacilli, yeast and diptheroids.
