Description

Praziquantel is at present the only drug used for the treatment of human schistosomiasis. It has a pyrazino isoquinoline ring system and is found to be very successful in animals for its anticestode and antitrematode properties. It has been identified that the voltage-gated schistosome calcium ion (Ca2+) channels serve as a target for praziquantel.
