United Scientific™ Inertia Balance
The Inertia Balance consists of two platforms connected by a pair of flexible steel arms.
Supplier: United Scientific™ INERTBAL
Alert:
Prop 65
Description
The inertia balance's one end is fixed to a table and the other end is free to oscillate. As more mass is added to the free end, it will oscillate slower. The period of this oscillation is independent of gravity and depends upon the mass. When comparing the period of oscillation of known masses, the value of an unknown mass can be calculated. This process calculates the mass of an object based on oscillations without gravity. A string (42 ft.) is included to suspend the mass(0.6 lb. / 270 g) so the weight is not resting on the tray. Since gravity is not needed, this method could be used to determine the mass of an object on different planets or in space. Required but not included is a C-clamp. Platform dimensions: 13 x 5 x 1 in.
- Sturdy and flexible steel arms
- Masses are held securely in the molded holes
- Powder coated masses include a hole to connect a string
- Includes activity guide
