Gibco™ Human Epidermal Keratinocytes, Pooled (HEKp)
Description
Get More Physiologically Relevant Results with Invitrogen Primary Cells
Human primary cell cultures closely mimic the in vivo state and thus generate more physiologically relevant data. Our Human Epidermal Keratinocytes are isolated and pooled from 4-6 neonatal foreskins. This process is robust and yields large donor lots to ensure availability of consistent product for your studies.
Reliable Performance and Purity
Primary cells from Invitrogen are guaranteed to have ≥70% viability upon thawing with each vial containing sufficient cells to seed ≥100 cm2 of surface area. Performance testing guarantees each vial of HEKp will reach ≥15 population doublings after thaw. In addition, each lot is tested for potential biological contaminants--HIV-1, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C viruses, mycoplasma, bacteria, yeast, and other fungi-- to ensure quality and robustness.
Optimized for Use with Gibco™ Media
Human Epidermal Keratinocytes, pooled, from Invitrogen have been optimized for use with our serum-free media, specifically EpiLife™ Medium with 60μM calcium and Human Keratinocyte Growth Supplement (HKGS). Preparation of supplemented media is a simple process; the final solution can be stored for up to 30 days at 4°C.
For Research Use Only. Not intended for any animal or human therapeutic or diagnostic use.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
These are senescent cells, and this is normal for adult keratinocyte culture. You always have a population of cells that are old and no longer proliferate. However younger cells, which are small in size should keep proliferating. When a culture gets older, you see more and more large cells, and the culture will eventually stop growing. With the right care an attention, the culture should yield at least 25 population doublings.

Each lot is tested for doubling time and the results are listed on the COA.
This information also appears on the COA.
These are all the same. Sometimes Keratinocytes are referred to as basal cells or basal keratinocytes.
