General Description

• Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, derived from Leuconostoc mesenteroides, is a cytosolic enzyme used to convert p-glucose-6-phosphate to 6-phosphogluconolactone
• This enzyme can use either NAD or NADP+ as an electron acceptor to promote this conversion

Application

• Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase belongs to the pentose phosphate pathway, a metabolic pathway that supplies reducing energy to cells, including erythrocytes, by maintaining the level of the co-enzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH)
