Spectrum™ Chemical FD and C Blue No. 1 is a synthetic dye produced from petroleum. It is used as a coloring agent, biological stain, textile dye, wood stain, and indicator. In cosmetics and personal care products, it is used in the formulation of a wide variety of product types, eye makeup, makeup, lipsticks, nail polishes, personal cleansers and skin care products. It appears as a dark violet to reddish violet, crystalline powder that is water soluble. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) controls the specifications for food, drug and cosmetic colors. Spectrum certifies all batches of artificial food colors meet FDA FD&C quality.
