The MagMAX Wastewater Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit enables efficient, high-throughput nucleic acid extraction from wastewater samples.

  • The MagMAX Wastewater Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit enables efficient, high-throughput nucleic acid extraction from wastewater samples
  • The kit utilizes MagMAX magnetic-bead technology, ensuring reproducible recovery of high-quality nucleic acid compatible with a broad range of applications
  • Wastewater and sewage surveillance is a useful tool for monitoring the regional spread of viral and bacterial pathogens
  • Surveillance at different levels of operatio has been shown to be a reliable way to detect the SARS-CoV-2 virus before it becomes widespread in a population
  • Wastewater surveillance can be used to monitor other viral targets such as influenza and norovirus
  • However, wastewater and sewage samples are some of the most challenging when it comes to extraction of RNA and DNA

Features of the MagMAX Wastewater Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit include:

  • Automation-ready protocols designed for KingFisher Flex, KingFisher APEX, and KingFisher Duo systems
  • Fast procedure allows for 24–96 samples to be processed in ∼45 minutes
  • Compatible with wastewater and sewage concentrated via ultracentrifugation, precipitation, filtration, or bead-based viral enrichment and non-concentrated samples
  • Includes methods for 200 μL to 500 mL starting volumes of wastewater
  • Elution volumes ranging from 50 to 100 μL

Is the purified viral nucleic acid that is obtained using MagMAX Wastewater Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit completely inhibitor-free?

The MagMAX Wastewater Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit allows elimination of the vast majority of diverse inhibitors of enzymatic reactions, even from the most diluted and challenging samples such as wastewater. In very rare instances, if some inhibitors still remain within the purified nucleic acid, the sample can be diluted 10-20X prior to downstream PCR or other applications.

Is concentration of wastewater required prior to nucleic acid isolation?

Starting volumes of ≤1 mL can be processed using the MagMAX Wastewater Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit without concentration. Larger wastewater volumes must first be concentrated using ultracentrifugation, precipitation, or concentration with Dynabeads (use the MagMAX Wastewater Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit, with Virus Enrichment, Cat. No. A52610 for this protocol).

What starting volume of wastewater can be used with the MagMAX Wastewater Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit?

The MagMAX Wastewater Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit is compatible with starting volumes of 200 µL to 1 mL.

How long is the protocol for the MagMAX Wastewater Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit?

The MagMAX Wastewater Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit protocol takes 45 mins to get from sample to extracted nucleic acid.

Is the MagMAX Wastewater Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit automation-compatible?

The MagMAX Wastewater Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit is compatible with the KingFisher Flex, APEX, and Duo instruments, and can also be used for manual processing in 24- and 96-well plates.
