Thermo Scientific GeneJET PCR Purification Kit utilizes a proprietary silica-based membrane technology in the form of a convenient spin column, eliminating the need for tedious resin manipulations or toxic phenol-chloroform extractions.

Thermo Scientific GeneJET PCR Purification Kit utilizes a proprietary silica-based membrane technology in the form of a convenient spin column, eliminating the need for tedious resin manipulations or toxic phenol-chloroform extractions. It effectively removes primers, dNTPs, unincorporated labeled nucleotides, enzymes, and salts from PCR and other reaction mixtures.

The kit can be used for purification of DNA fragments from 25 bp to 20 kb with recovery rates up to 100%. Each GeneJET purification column has a total binding capacity of up to 25 μg of DNA, and the entire procedure takes 5 minutes. The purified DNA can be used in common downstream applications, such as sequencing, restriction digestion, labeling, ligation, cloning, in vitro transcription, blotting or in situ hybridization.

Highlights

  • Highly efficient: 90 to 100% recoveries in the range of 100 bp to 10 kb
  • Fast: procedure takes only 5 minutes
  • Convenient: spin columns are capped and assembled with collection tubes

Applications

Fast and efficient purification of DNA fragments ideal for use in all conventional molecular biology procedures including:

  • FastDigest or conventional restriction digestion
  • Automated fluorescent or radioactive sequencing
  • PCR
  • In vitro transcription
  • In situ hybridization
  • Labeling
  • Cloning

Can I use water instead of Elution Buffer in the elution step of GeneJET and MagJET nucleic acid purification kits?

We would highly recommend using the provided Elution Buffer in the elution step for best results. You may use nuclease-free water; however, it may affect the yield of the nucleic acids during purification and their stability during storage.

Can I use a vacuum manifold with GeneJET kits?

The GeneJET spin columns are compatible with vacuum manifolds of standard size (e.g. Qiagen, Sigma-Aldrich, Promega). However, not all GeneJET kits are supported with a vacuum protocol. Please refer to the particular kit protocol for the detailed procedure.

Can I use GeneJET PCR Purification Kit for DNA gel extraction?

GeneJET PCR Purification Kit is designed for PCR reaction clean-up. The kit can be used for gel extraction by following the protocol of GeneJET Gel Extraction Kit, but DNA yield may be compromised. For best performance of DNA gel extraction, we recommend to use GeneJET Gel Extraction Kit. For a 3-in-1 kit for purification of PCR products from enzymatic reaction mixtures and agarose gels, we recommend GeneJET Gel Extraction and DNA Cleanup Micro Kit (Cat. Nos. K0831/2).

Can I use GeneJET PCR Purification Kit for enzymatic clean-up?

GeneJET PCR Purification Kit can be used for enzymatic clean-up. Please follow the PCR reaction clean-up protocol.

At what temperature should I perform centrifugation steps in the GeneJET kits?

We recommend performing centrifugation steps at room temperature when the temperature is not specified.

Are GeneJET spin columns or MagJET magnetic beads available separately?

No, we do not offer GeneJET columns or MagJET magnetic beads separately at this time.

Do you offer the binding buffer included in the GeneJET PCR Purification Kit as a stand-alone product?

Yes, we offer Binding Buffer for GeneJET Gel Extraction Kit as a stand-alone product: Cat. No. R1331.
