Description

Description

The Human Granulocyte Macrophage-Colony Stimulating Factor (Hu GM-CSF) ELISA quantitates Hu GM-CSF in human serum, plasma, buffered solution, or cell culture medium. The assay will exclusively recognize both natural and recombinant Hu GM-CSF. Principle of the method The Human GM-CSF solid-phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) is designed to measure the amount of the target bound between a matched antibody pair. A target-specific antibody has been pre-coated in the wells of the supplied microplate. Samples, standards, or controls are then added into these wells and bind to the immobilized (capture) antibody. The sandwich is formed by the addition of the second (detector) antibody, a substrate solution is added that reacts with the enzyme-antibody-target complex to produce measurable signal. The intensity of this signal is directly proportional to the concentration of target present in the original specimen. Rigorous validation Each manufactured lot of this ELISA kit is quality tested for criteria such as sensitivity, specificity, precision, and lot-to-lot consistency. See manual for more information on validation.

The GM-CSF gene encodes for a cytokine that regulates the production, differentiation, and function of macrophages and granulocytes. The active form of the protein exists as a homodimer in the extracellular space. This gene is located in a cluster of related genes at the chromosome region 5q31, which has been associated with interstitial deletions in the 5q- syndrome and acute myelogenous leukemia. Other genes in the cluster include interleukins 4, 5, and 13. The gene is involved in promoting tissue inflammation. Elevated levels of cytokines, including the one produced by this gene, have been observed in SARS-CoV-2 infected patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome. Mice that lack this gene or its receptor have been shown to develop pulmonary alveolar proteinosis.
