General Description

Lovastatin is a compound that can lower cholesterol in vivo and in vitro by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, a rate limiting enzyme in cholesterol synthesis

Applications

• It blocks product ion of mevalonate, a critical compound in the production of cholesterol and isoprenoids

• It can increase cellular resistance to anticancer agents such as doxorubicin • It can induce apoptosis in myeloma cells

• It can cause cell cycle arrest in G1 and G2/M phase

• It also blocks PDGF receptor tyrosine phosphorylation and MAP kinase activation by PDGF
