Rat Monoclonal Antibody

Description: The eBio1316H antibody reacts with mouse IL-13. The eBio1316H antibody is a neutralizing antibody. Mouse interleukin-13 (IL-13), originally designated p600, is a 11.6 kDa protein secreted by activated T helper cells, CD8+ T cells, and NK cells. IL-13 was originally identified in 1989 through differential hybridization of cDNA libraries prepared from T helper 1 and T helper 2 cells. IL-13 contains four cysteine residues, which form two intramolecular disulfide bonds. IL-13 shares many activities with IL-4; this relates to a requirement for IL-4Ralpha chain for signal transduction. The biological activities of IL-13 include suppression of macrophage cytotoxic activity, upregulation of IL-1RA expression, and suppression of inflammatory cytokine expression. IL-13 induces CD23 expression on B cells and enhances CD72, and expression of class II MHC gene products. Mouse IL-13 does not display the activities on T cells and B cell stimulatory effects which IL-4 exhibits. Mouse IL-13 is active on human and mouse cells. Applications Reported: The eBio1316H antibody has been reported useful for neutralization, ELISA detection, and ELISPOT detection. Applications Tested: The Functional Grade purified format of the eBio1316H antibody has been tested by LAL assay to verify low endotoxin level and by bioassay to quantitate neutralization of IL-13 biological activity. For in vitro neutralization, the Functional Grade purified eBio1316H antibody at 0.

IL-13 is an immunoregulatory cytokine produced primarily by activated Th2 cells, and is involved in regulating inflammatory and immune responses. IL-13 down-regulates macrophage activity, thereby inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, and is involved in allergen-induced asthma through mechanisms independent of IgE and eosinophils. IL-13 also regulates several stages of B cell maturation and differentiation, up-regulates CD23 and MHC class II expression, and promotes IgE isotype switching of B cells. Structurally, IL-13 closely resembles IL-3, IL-4, IL-5 and GM-CSF. The gene encoding IL-13, IL3, IL5, IL4, and CSF2 form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q, with the IL-13 gene particularly close to IL4.
