GeneJET Plant RNA Purification Mini Kit is designed for rapid and efficient purification of high quality total RNA from wide variety of plant species and tissue types.

Thermo Scientific GeneJET Plant RNA Purification Mini Kit is designed for rapid and efficient purification of high quality total RNA from wide variety of plant species and tissue types.

The kit utilizes silica-based membrane technology in the form of a convenient spin column, eliminating the need for expensive resins, toxic phenol-chloroform extractions, or time-consuming alcohol precipitation. The standard procedure takes less than 20 minutes following cell lysis. Purified high quality RNA can be used in a wide range of downstream applications, such as RT-PCR, RT-qPCR, Northern blotting and other RNA-based analysis. RNA yields vary between different species, tissues, and age of tissue sample. See Table 1 for typical total RNA yields from various sources.

Highlights

  • Fast—procedure completed in 20 min following cell lysis
  • Convinient—protocol does not include clogging-prone lysate filtration step
  • High yield—up to 65 μg of high purity and high integrity RNA from 50 mg plant sample
  • Compatible with wide variety of samples (leaves, roots, sprouts and other parts of various plants)

Applications

Fast extraction of high purity RNA suitable for all conventional molecular biology procedures, including:

  • RT-PCR
  • RT-qPCR
  • Northern blotting
  • Nuclease protection assay

Can I use water instead of Elution Buffer in the elution step of GeneJET and MagJET nucleic acid purification kits?

We would highly recommend using the provided Elution Buffer in the elution step for best results. You may use nuclease-free water; however, it may affect the yield of the nucleic acids during purification and their stability during storage.

Is any GeneJET kit suitable for RNA purification from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded FFPE tissues?

We cannot recommend GeneJET kits for RNA purification from FFPE tissues. In case of genomic DNA purififcation from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples, we recommend GeneJET FFPE DNA Purification Kit.

Can I use a vacuum manifold with GeneJET kits?

The GeneJET spin columns are compatible with vacuum manifolds of standard size (e.g. Qiagen, Sigma-Aldrich, Promega). However, not all GeneJET kits are supported with a vacuum protocol. Please refer to the particular kit protocol for the detailed procedure.

At what temperature should I perform centrifugation steps in the GeneJET kits?

We recommend performing centrifugation steps at room temperature when the temperature is not specified.

Are GeneJET spin columns or MagJET magnetic beads available separately?

No, we do not offer GeneJET columns or MagJET magnetic beads separately at this time.

Does the GeneJET Stabilized and Fresh Whole Blood RNA Kit isolate miRNA?

This kit is not suitable for purification of small RNAs.

Do the GeneJET RNA purification kits remove genomic DNA?

These kits will remove the majority of genomic DNA, however trace amounts may still remain. Therefore, for applications that are very sensitive to genomic DNA, we recommend you treat the purified RNA sample with DNase I (Cat. No. EN0521), RapidOut DNA Removal Kit (Cat. No. K2981), or dsDNase (Cat. No. EN0771).
