General Description
- Cinchonidine is an alkaloid naturally occurring in the bark of Cinchona strubs that has activity against Plasmodium spp
- Cinchonidine is a diastereoisomer of cinchonine and can be used to promote chirality in asymmetric or enantioselective synthesis of organic compounds
Applications
- Cinchonidine has been used as a starting material in the synthesis of anti-malarial cinchona alkaloid conjugates
- Has been shown to potently induce γ-globin mRNA and fetal hemoglobin in erythroid progenitor cells and may be useful in preclinical studies of β-thalassemia
