Description

Description

Calcium 3-hydroxy-3-methylbutyrate hydrate is a nutritional supplement, which represents a calcium salt of beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate (HMB). The latter is a leucine metabolite produced in the body through oxidation of the ketoacid of leucine (ketoisocaproate, KIC). Because leucine plays an important regulatory role in protein metabolism and due to the conversion of leucine to KIC, several researchers have presumed that KIC is the active ingredient responsible for most of the beneficial effects of leucine on protein metabolism.

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.
