9,10-Anthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid sodium salt hydrate forms charge-transfer complexes with 9,10-dimethoxyanthracene-2-sulfonate. It is used as a catalyst in production of alkaline pulping in the soda process. It is used as an in situ photochemical fluorescence probe.
