Soln is used as a food additive, plasticizer for casein, preservative, acidity regulator, bulking agent, and in shampoo and liquid soaps. It is also used for the treatment for arrhythmias and sympathomimetics. It is useful chiral synthon and building block for depsipeptides. It is used as a corrosion inhibitor in alcohol antifreeze mixtures, flavoring agent, emulsifier, corrosion inhibitor and pH control agent.
