Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Potassium Hydroxide 3%
Description
Differentiate gram-positive and gram-negative organisms with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Potassium Hydroxide 3%.Halebian et al., in 1981 reported the use of 3% Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) to differentiate anaerobic gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria1. Von Graevenitz and Bucher further investigated this with other bacteria2.
Potassium Hydroxide 3% is used to differentiate gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. Gram-negative cell walls are broken down by 3% KOH and it releases viscoid chromosomal material which causes suspension to become thick and stringy. This reaction characterizes the gram-negative bacteria.Ready to use: Convenience of prepared reagentEasy to interpret: Stringy, viscous material pulled up from suspension within first 30 seconds is easy to interpret. Not all products are available for sale in all territories.
