Description

Detect phenylalanine deamination with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Ferric Chloride.Henriksen and Closs reported Proteus could be differentiated from other enteric gram-negative bacilli based on the ability to deaminate phenylalanine into phenylpyruvic acid1-3. This reaction is also associated with Providencia and Morganella spp4,5. 10% Ferric Chloride solution is used to detect phenylpyruvic acid formed in the deamination of phenylalanine6.

Ferric Chloride is used detect phenylalanine deamination in Enterobacteriaceae. Phenylalanine undergoes oxidative deamination to yield phenylpyruvic acid. In presence of 10% Ferric Chloride it chelates with phenylpyruvic acid to form green color.Ready for use: no further preparation is required.Easy to interpret: green color develops within 5 minutes.Not all products are available for sale in all territories.
