Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ BactiDrop™ Ferric Chloride
Use BactiDrop™ Ferric Chloride (10%) reagent for detecting phenylalanine deamination in the phenylalanine test.
Supplier: Thermo Scientific™ RE21514
Description
Detect deamination of phenylalanine using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ BactiDrop™ Ferric Chloride (10%) reagent. Henecka and Houben-Weyl demonstrated that when testing for the presence of phenylpyruvic acid using an aqueous solution of ferric chloride, a green color reaction is produced1,2. This biochemical test is useful for differentiating Enterobacteriaceae. Most members of the Proteus and Providencia groups give a positive phenylalanine test reaction3,4.
The ability to deaminate phenylalanine to phenylpyruvic acid is measured by the phenylalanine test. Ferric chloride acts as a chelating agent that reacts with phenylpyruvic acid and forms a green color5.Ready-to-use: Liquid reagentRapid test: Visible color change within 5 minutes of addition of reagentEasy to interpret:Positive Test - Green color development within 5 minutesNegative Test - No color developmentBactiDrop™ Ferric Chloride (10%) contains Ferric Chloride,6H2O in hydrochloric acid and demineralized water and is supplied as 0.75mL ampules. Not all products are available for sale in all territories.
