Applicationsm-Cresol is employed in the preparation of synthetic resins like phenol-formaldehyde resins, disinfectants, and photographic developers. It is used as industrial solvent for dissolving polymers such as polyaniline. It acts as a precursor to vitamin E and antiseptic amylmetacresol. It is used as insuline preservatives.

Miscible with water, diethylether, chloroform and ethanol.
Notes
Hygroscopic. Air and light sensitive. Store in a cool place. Keep the container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, strong bases, strong acids, aluminum and aluminum alloys.
