It is utilized in electrophoresis detection of natural and synthetic estrogens. It also finds use in the drug, cosmetics, food industry and as a laxative to treat constipation. Further, it is used as a food additive, emulsifier and dispersant. It plays an important role as an excipient in the production of tablets and suspensions.
