Chromium(III) oxide is known as green compound which is used for buffing and polishing. It can be used as abrasives. Apart from being used as a precursor to the magnetic pigment viz., chromium dioxide, it is used in inks, glasses, and pigments (viridian). They are employed as plating agents and surface treating agents. It is a catalyst in the Phillips process of manufacture of high density polythene.
