Cefsulodin sodium salt hydrate, 97%
Cefsulodin sodium (sulcephalosporin, CAS # 52152-93-9) is the salt of the semi-synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic. | CAS: 1426397-23-0 | C22H21N4NaO8S2+ | 556.54 g/mol
Supplier: Thermo Scientific Chemicals J6612003
Description
Cefsulodin is most commonly used in CIN agar to select for Yersinia microorganisms. The compound displays a mechanism of action like many β lactam antibiotics through inhibition of cell wall synthesis by competitively inhibiting penicillin binding protein (PBP) crosslinking of peptidoglycan resulting in inhibition of the final transpeptidation step. Through the inability for Cefsulodin sodium salt hydrate to inhibit cefsulodin-resistant mutants of Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO4089 growth displayed that Cefsulodin sodium salt hydrate may compete with PBP3 in addition to PBP1A and PBP1B.
This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.
General Description
• Cefsulodin sodium is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with a narrow range of effectiveness
• Cefsulodin competitively inhibits penicillin binding protein, preventing cell wall synthesis and promoting lysis
Application
• Cefsulodin is mainly effective against Yersinia microorganisms, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus
• Cefsulodin is useful for drug resistance studies involving susceptible microbes and for studies related to drug mechanisms
• It is appropriate for selection experiments and other cell culture applications
