1-n-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate is used as a solvent in headspace gas chromatography and countercurrent chromatography, as mobile and stationary phases. It is widely used in organic synthesis, extraction technologies, electochemistry and biphasic organometallic catalysis.
