It is made up of three identical subunits bound by interchain disulfides. It is secreted at sites of platelet activation and aggregation and is involved in the processes of chemotaxis, adhesion, proliferation and differentiation of leukocytes, fibroblasts, smooth muscle and endothelial cells.

Cellular Localization: Secretory granules, Golgi complex, endoplasmic reticulum, extracellular matrix Ab-3 shows no cross-reaction with fibronectin, fibrinogen, and von Willebrand factor. It blocks TSP-mediated agglutination of fixed RBCs. It shows no effect on TSP-mediated agglutination of fixed, activated platelets. It inhibits both thrombin- and A23187-induced aggregation of washed, live (not fixed) platelets without affecting the secretion of serotonin. It inhibits adhesion of melanoma G361 cells to TSP. It blocks binding of C-terminal domain to Integrin-Associated Protein (IAP)/CD47.
