Applications
Tetramethoxysilane is used in corrosion resistant coatings and in catalysts. It is also used in the production of silicone. Further, it is employed in the sol-gel synthesis of chromium-doped silicates and in the formation of hexagonal mesoporous silica layers. In addition, it is used in synthetic chemistry to prepare ketals and acetals from ketones and aldehydes respectively.

Miscible with ethanol and organic solvents. Immiscible with water.

Moisture sensitive. Incompatible with oxidizing agents, acids and bases.
