In the manufacture of strontium salts, pyrotechnics, pigments, in greases and soaps and as a desiccant.Strontium oxide was used to make television picture tube glass. It finds application in glass, optic and ceramic industries. It is an active component of paint dryers. It is also used to prepare pure strontium upon heating with aluminum under vacuum.
