This intronless gene encodes a member of the SRY-related HMG-box (SOX) family of transcription factors involved in the regulation of embryonic development and in the determination of cell fate. The product of this gene is required for stem-cell maintenance in the central nervous system, and also regulates gene expression in the stomach. Mutations in this gene have been associated with optic nerve hypoplasia and with syndromic microphthalmia, a severe form of structural eye malformation. This gene lies within an intron of another gene called SOX2 overlapping transcript (SOX2OT).Applications Reported: This Btjce antibody has been reported for use in intracellular staining followed by flow cytometric analysis, immunohistochemical staining of frozen tissue sections, immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections, and immunocytochemistry. Applications Tested: This Btjce antibody has been tested by immunocytochemistry on fixed and permeabilized Ntera cells at less than or equal to 10 μg/mL. In flow cytometry it can be used at 0.25 μg/mL using the Foxp3/Transcription Factor Buffer Set (cat. 00-5523) and protocol. It is recommended that the antibody be carefully titrated for optimal performance in the assay of interest. Excitation: 488 nm; Emission: 519 nm; Laser: Blue Laser. Further, SOX2 protein may act as a transcriptional activator after forming a protein complex with other proteins. Mutations in the SOX2 gene have been associated with bilateral anophthalmia, a severe form of structural eye malformation, optic nerve hypoplasia and syndromic microphthalmia.
