Description
Puromycin is also used as a substrate of Mdr-1. It is been widely used in cell culture applications. It also induces apoptosis which was found as parallel apoptosis caused by deprivation of neuronal growth factor (NGF) in developing chick sympathetic neurons; however, this apoptotic activity can be inhibited by several transcriptional inhibitors such as: actinomycin D and α-amanitin (sc-202440) which has lead researchers to hypothesize that apoptosis is triggered through the transcription of particular genes. Shown to arrest cells in G2/M phase. Puromycin is an inhibitor of CD13 and DPP7.
This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.
General Description
- Puromycin (puromycine) is an aminoglycoside antibiotic originating from Streptomyces alboniger
- It acts as an aminoacyl tRNA analog and prematurely terminates peptide elongation
- Puromycin has effects on both prokaryotes and eukaryotes
- Puromycin may also have neoplastic activity
Application
- Puromycin can be used for research use as an immunofluorescent target, in antibiotic resistance testing, or for studies on drug mechanisms
