Applications
(+)-Pilocarpine hydrochloride is typically used as an animal model for temporal lobe epilepsy and can mimic the generation of complex partial seizures by producing changes in hippocampal neuron morphology, membrane properties, and synaptic responses. (+)-Pilocarpine hydrochloride is a nonselective AChR (cholinergic) agonist that acts under high junctional concentrations of the neurotransmitter. Also, a parasympathomimetic agent with the muscarinic effects of acetylcholine. (+)-Pilocarpine hydrochloride is an activator of mAChR M.

Solubility
Soluble in water (100 mg/ml, with heat as needed), alcohol, chloroform (slightly), DMSO (75 mM), and ethanol. Insoluble in ether.

Notes
Store in cool place. Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Stable under recommended storage conditions. Keep away from strong oxidizing agents. Hygroscopic. Store at 4°C.
