It induces apoptosis in human glioblastoma cells. It is used as a coronary vasodilator in the treatment of cardiac and circulatory disorders. Further, it is used in high-altitude medicine to treat high altitude pulmonary edema, hypertension and chronic stable angina. In addition, it is frequently used as a tocolytic agent.

Soluble in acetone, methylene chloride, chloroform, ethyl acetate, dimethyl sulfoxide and methanol. Sparingly soluble in ethanol. Insoluble in water.
Notes
Light sensitive. Store in a cool place. Incompatible with strong acids, strong oxidizing agents, caustics, aliphatic amines, amides, diethylamine, potassium hydride and potassium hydroxide.
