The WU24A4P monoclonal antibody reacts with human interleukin (IL)-17F homodimer (IL-17FF). This antibody specifically reacts with this homodimer and has no reactivity for the IL-17AF heterodimer. IL-17FF is a 34kDa member of the IL-17 family, which includes IL-17A, B, C, D, and E (IL-25). Within this family, IL-17A and IL-17F are produced preferentially by T helper 17 (Th17) cells, with other members produced more widely. IL-17F and IL-17A have many overlapping functions, but knockout studies have shown each to have independent functions as well. In vitro cultured Th17 cells have been shown to express IL-17FF and IL-17AA homodimers and IL-17AF heterodimers depending on the culture conditions and their differentiation state. Together, these three dimers signal through the IL-17RA/IL-17RC receptor complex to mediate immune responses at mucosal interfaces and are found at lesion sites in inflammatory bowel disease, asthma, atopic dermatitis and rheumatoid arthritis.

While other clones with specificity for IL-17F, such as SHLR17, react with the IL-17F monomer in the context both IL-17FF and IL-17AF dimers, clone WU24A4P reacts specifically with IL-17FF homodimer and does not detect IL-17AF heterodimer.
