DescriptionThe MRa4-1 monoclonal antibody reacts with CD49d, which is also known as the integrin alpha 4 subunit. This 150kDa cell surface protein is expressed by thymocytes, peripheral lymphocytes, monocytes, and eosinophils in complex with either integrin beta1 or integrin beta7. Outside of the immune system, CD49d is also expressed on mast cells, neural crest cells, retinal cells, and dorsal root ganglion neurons. Integrins are responsible for lymphocyte homing to Peyer’s patches and mesenteric lymph nodes, as well as neural development and regeneration. Several ligands have been reported for the integrin a4b1 complex, including VCAM-1 (CD106) and fibronectin.
