Glucagon is a peptide hormone secreted by alpha cells in the Islet of Langerhans of the pancreas. The peptide is synthesized as a 180 amino acid precursor which is converted to glucagon by prohormone convertase 2 (PC2). The primary role of glucagon is in gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis. It stimulates the release of glucose by converting glycogen in liver, and also maintains glucose homeostasis in coordination with insulin.

This antibody is predicted to react with mouse, rat, non-human primate and rabbit based on sequence homology.
