Applications
2-Hexanone acts as a solvent for lacquers, ink thinners, nitrocellulose, resins and waxes. It is also employed in the preparation of (+/-)-monomorine. It also plays a useful role in the preparation of alcohols by transfer hydrogenation of ketones. Further, it is used as a medium evaporating solvent for nitrocellulose acrylates, vinyl and alkyd coatings.

Solubility
Miscible with acetone, ethanol and ether. Slightly miscible with water.

Notes
Store in a cool place. Incompatible with oxidizing agents, strong bases and reducing agents.
