Applications
1-Chloroethyl chloroformate acts as a reagent in the selective N-dealkylation of tertiary amines. It is also used as a reactant in the preparation of alkyl 1-chloroethyl carbonates. Further, it is used for N-demethylation reaction in the determination of multiple drugs of abuse in biological fluids using capillary electrophoresis with native fluorescence and laser-induced fluorescence detection. It plays an important role as a catalyst for the chemoselective desilylation of silyl-protected alcohols. In addition to this, it is used to cleave benzhydryl groups from amines.

Solubility
Miscible with most organic solvents.

Notes
Moisture sensitive. Store in a cool place. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agent, strong base, alcohols and amines.
